This doesn’t need a whole lot of explanation. Look, here is the photo I was most proud of around this time last year. Mind you this is what I considered to be “edited” at the time.
So after a bit of criticism (constructive, mind you) from fellow photographer Cam Macky, I set out to find my shooting style and really up my editing game. It’s amazing to see how much you coast until someone points out that you can be doing so much better.
And a side-by-side with the unedited version, straight from the camera.
I’m proud of myself. I worked hard to learn this stuff, and I had help and advice from so many people that I look up to. Granted, editing a single photo now takes upwards of 35-40 minutes, up from about 10 last year. But now I can deliver results to my fashion clients that give them confidence that they are getting the best possible results from their photographer. There is always room for growth, and this is not the last stop on the progress train for me. I hope this encourages you to get out there and really push yourself to learn something new, or even refine a skill that you already have, because investing in yourself is never a waste of time or effort!
